TYLER – The No. 4 ranked UT Tyler softball team will host No. 5 Texas Lutheran and La Verne in a three-team NCAA Division III Tyler, Texas Regional this weekend at Suddenlink Field. The double-elimination tournament begins with the Patriots (39-4) playing the Leopards (31-12) at 1 p.m. on Friday before La Verne and TLU (37-4) play at 4 p.m. in the final game of the first day. UTT and TLU will play at 2 p.m. on Saturday to complete the round-robin portion before results dictate the schedule scenarios of the double-elimination tournament.

The Patriots, who have outscored opponents by a 336-77 margin this season, are the defending NCAA DIII champion and enter the regional tournament leading the nation with a .391 batting average. UT Tyler finished as the American Southwest Conference regular-season champion with a 28-2 record, but as the ASC Championship runner-up after falling to UT Dallas in the tournament finals. The Patriots earned the at-large bid and top seed in the region with the strength of its regular season and are making their 10th straight regional appearance where they are 43-18 all-time.

Kaylee Prather leads the Patriots and the nation with 77 hits this season and was named the ASC Player of the Year. A senior from Elysian Fields, Prather is hitting .510 this season and has the all-time program record with a .468 career batting average. She established a new single-season record with her 77 hits this season and has 148 in a two-year career after transferring in as a junior. She is currently on a five-game hitting streak and has reached base in all but one game this season. Prather has 10 doubles, five triples, two home runs and has scored 56 runs for the Patriots.

KK Stevens enters this weekend with 198 career hits in 199 games played in a UT Tyler uniform. The senior catcher is hitting .380 this season and leads the Patriots with 12 home runs and 47 RBI. Cheyenne Thompson is second on the team with 46 RBI and comes into the regional tournament with a .434 batting average that includes 17 doubles, two triples and seven home runs. Only a sophomore, the Mexia native already has 94 hits and 69 RBI in her career for the Patriots.

In her first season at UT Tyler, first baseman Andrea Gonzales has started all 43 games and is hitting .421 with 14 doubles, a home run and has 37 RBI. She hit her first home run of the season against UTD in the finals and has not made an error all season with 215 putouts for the Patriots. Mel Hinojosa enters this weekend with a .398 batting average in 43 starts at third base. A senior from Houston, Hinojosa has 11 doubles and two home runs which has helped produce 32 RBI while Lexi Ackroyd is hitting .384 with 10 doubles, two triples and has scored 31 runs and drove in 26 more. At second base, Bianca Van Vlerah is hitting .352 with 29 RBI and at short stop Hannah Moore has 10 doubles, a triple, two home runs and 29 RBI. Moore has made only two errors with 45 putouts and 41 assists, while Van Vlerah has made 74 pouts and 36 assists to provide great defense for the Patriots.

Alaina Kissinger (22-2) enters the regional tournament with a 66-4 career record at UT Tyler and with 380 strikeouts in 442 2/3 innings of work. A senior from Telephone, Kissinger has a 1.09 ERA in her career in 106 appearances. She is a four-time ASC all-conference selection and has recorded 92 strikeouts in 141 2/3 innings this season. Whitney Romero (13-1) has produced a freshman season where she has 70 strikeouts and a 1.21 ERA in 86 2/3 innings, while Miranda Leal (4-1) has 20 strikeouts and a 2.79 ERA in 37 2/3 innings of her freshman season. The UT Tyler pitching staff has a 1.77 ERA with 186 strikeouts and only 46 walks this season.

If two teams remain after GAME 3:
Game 4 – Two remaining teams play.  If the undefeated team wins, that team wins the regional tournament and advances to the Super Regional.

SCENARIO 2
If three teams remain after Game 3
GAME 4 – No. 2 seed vs. No. 3 seed
GAME 5 – No. 1 seed vs. winner of GAME 4; Winner of GAME 5 advances to Super Regional.

Spectator Policies and Guidelines

ADA Accommodations: Trained guide dogs, signal dogs, or "service animals" are permitted inside athletic venues.

Bag Search: All bags are subject to search upon entry and within athletic venues.

Banners and Signs: Please note:

  • Signs cannot be hung on any surface;
  • Signs cannot obstruct another guest's view;
  • Signs cannot cover existing advertising or signage;
  • Signs must be in good taste;
  • Signs may not be commercial or political in nature;
  • Signs may not be constructed of wood or metal material.

Bottles and Cans: It is prohibited to enter athletic venues with glass bottles or cans. A search may be conducted at the gates to assist in maintaining an absence of these and other prohibited items from entering the stadium.

Cameras/Video Recorders: Hand-held still camera photography is permitted at games for noncommercial personal photography. The use of tripods or video photography of any type is not permitted.

Cellular Phones: Usage of cellular phones is allowed, so long as it does not disturb other fans in the area or interfere with their ability to enjoy the game.

Concession Stands: UT Tyler provides a wide range of food and beverage items for sale at athletic events.

Coolers: Coolers are not allowed inside athletic venues.

Ejection: Law enforcement and game management personnel reserve the right to eject any person whose behavior is unruly or illegal in nature. Game tickets will be collected from those fans without refund and the guest will be escorted from the venue.

First Aid: First aid is available during all events by contact game management personnel.

Lost and Found: Lost and found articles should be taken to the nearest game management staff member. After an event, all found articles will be taken to the athletic department offices. Call (903) 566-7105 for information following an event.

Lost Children/Parents: All lost children should be escorted to the nearest law enforcement and game management staff member. Lost children will then be escorted to the nearest security center. Lost parents should follow the same procedure.

Paging: Paging is permitted in case of medial emergencies only. If a medical emergency arises, contact the game management personnel.

Prohibited and Restricted Items

  • Alcohol; Bottles and Cans; Illegal Drugs; Confetti; Firearms and Weapons; Fireworks; Animals; Horns, whistles, noise makers; Signs, flags, and sticks; Umbrellas; Laser pointers; Food and beverages of any kind; Any container other than soft-sided purses, camera bags, fanny/back packs, and diaper bags less than 12" by 12" by 12"; Any item deemed to be a safety or security hazard.

Radios/Televisions: Radios and televisions are permitted so long as they do not disturb others seated nearby.

Restrooms: Restrooms are located at all venues.

Stadium Emergencies: In the event of a serious emergency, game management staff, law enforcement and fire personnel are available to assist all patrons, including those with disabilities.
