TYLER – The No. 2-ranked UT Tyler softball team leads the nation with a .415 batting average and .984 fielding percentage and is on a 12-game winning streak coming into a three-game series against Ozarks on Friday and Saturday at Suddenlink Field.

The Patriots (28-2, 19-2 ASC) are coming off a sweep of Concordia last weekend with three straight 8-0 wins, while Ozarks (6-22, 4-20 ASC) has lost seven straight including three last weekend against East Texas Baptist. UT Tyler comes into the series outscoring opponents by a 258-51 margin this season and is 15-1 at home. The series begins at 5 p.m. on Friday before a noon doubleheader on Saturday. 

Kaylee Prather enters this weekend with a 13-game hitting streak and having reached base in all 30 games this season. A senior from Elysian Fields, Prather is second in the nation with 57 hits and leads the ASC with a .538 batting average. She hit her second career home run last weekend in Austin and also has eight doubles, three triples and 13 RBI. She leads the Patriots with 23 stolen bases and 19 multi-hit games. KK Stevens is fourth in the nation with nine home runs and now has 27 home runs in her career. A senior from Plano, Stevens has started 184 games in her UT Tyler career and is currently hitting .422 with 36 RBI.

Cheyenne Thompson and Stevens are 10th nationally with their 36 RBI this season, while Thompson is sixth nationally with 14 doubles. A sophomore from Mexia, Thompson is hitting .461 with six home runs and a triple also on her resume. Thompson leads the Patriots with 10 multi-RBI games this season and 14 multi-RBI performances. Lexi Ackroyd is hitting .432 with seven doubles and two triples, while Mel Hinojosa is at .402 and Bianca Van Vlerah .380 in their senior seasons. Hinojosa has started all 30 games at third and Van Vlerah all 30 games at second, while junior transfer Andrea Gonzales is hitting .429 with 10 doubles and 25 RBI as the team’s first baseman. Hannah Moore has added two homers, five doubles and 23 RBI at short stop and Kursten Jaime has 11 stolen bases as a pinch runner.

Alaina Kissinger (15-0) is coming off two complete-game shutouts last weekend against Concordia and is now 59-2 in her career. Kissinger has 62 strikeouts this season and 350 in her career. She has made 96 appearances in her career. Whitney Romero (10-1) earned one win last week and has 52 strikeouts in 66 2/3 innings of work in her first season with the Patriots, while Miranda Leal (3-1) has wins over ETBU and UT Dallas on her resume.

UT Tyler will return to next weekend at Louisiana College before returning home for their final regular-season home series from April 21-22 against Sul Ross.
