LONGVIEW – Kaylee Prather went 3-for-4 including a leadoff single and stolen base to start a six-run third inning to help lead the No. 1-ranked UT Tyler softball team to a 9-0 win in five innings over LeTourneau in the American Southwest Conference series opener at the Joyce Family Athletic Village.

The Patriots (11-0, 4-0 ASC) pounded out 12 hits in the win, while Alaina Kissinger (7-0) threw a two-hit shutout to earn her 51st career victory. She would strike out a season-high nine batters and only faced 17 batters as her teammates provided the punch to end the game early for the 10th time in 11 games.

Prather, who also led off the game with a single, is now hitting .564 and is tied with teammate Cheyenne Thompson with 22 hits through 11 games this season after her three-hit performance. Thompson would go 2-for-4 with two RBI and a double, while Mel Hinojosa was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Andrea Gonzales was 2-for-2 with two RBI, while Bianca Van Vlerah, KK Stevens and Courtney Fisher had one hit each.

UT Tyler and the YellowJackets 3-7, 1-6 ASC) resume the series with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday in Longview before the Patriots return home where they will host Mary Hardin-Baylor at Suddenlink Field.
