ABILENE – Cheyenne Thompson drove in four runs for the second straight game and Alaina Kissinger had three strikeouts and allowed only one run in four innings of work to lead No. 1-ranked UT Tyler to an 11-3 win over Hardin-Simmons on Friday in its American Southwest Conference opener at Ellis Field.

The Patriots (3-0) ended the game in five innings with the run-rule after pounding out nine hits and watching Kissinger scatter four hits in her second win of the season. Kissinger improved to 46-2 in her career and was relieved by Ryata Daniel and Miranda Leal who made their first appearances with the Patriots. HSU fell to 1-2 overall after splitting with Southwestern last weekend.

“I thought Alaina did a great job in the circle for us,” UT Tyler head coach Mike Reed said. “I thought we were able to use our speed early to score some runs. We know tomorrow will be two tough ASC games.”

Thompson is now 8-for-10 with 10 RBI for the Patriots through three games of her sophomore season after a 3-for-4 game with four RBI against the Cowgirls. She was named the Fastpitchnews.com National Player of the Week and the American Southwest Conference Player of the Week on Monday after also having four RBI last Friday against Centenary. Mel Hinojosa and Lexi Ackroyd added two RBI each, while Kaylee Prather and Bianca Van Vlerah had one RBI each from the top of the lineup.

Ackroyd went 2-for-2 in the game and is now 3-for-5 with three walks to start her senior season, while Prather stole one base in the game and now has six stolen bases through the first three games. Prather is 5-for-9 this season after a first-inning single to shortstop that resulted in her stealing second but being stranded. The Patriots scored seven of their 11 runs in the third inning after having seven hits in the inning that started with a Thompson double. Hinojosa hit a two-run double in the inning, followed by Ackroyd single that scored two and an RBI double by Van Vlerah.

UT Tyler and Hardin-Simmons will return to action on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at noon at Ellis Field. The Patriots go into the doubleheader having won 47 straight regular-season conference games.
