UT Tyler senior softball player Katelyn Thomason was named to the NFCA All-America Second Team and junior teammate Joey Cronin was voted to the Capital One Academic All-America Second Team, the respective organizations have announced.
Thomason, a senior from Spring, Texas, hit .421 on the season with 43 RBIs, leading the Patriots. In the circle, she was 13-4 with a 2.00 ERA. She struck out 76 batters while walking just 34 in 101.1 innings pitched across 20 appearances.
She was the American Southwest Conference East Division Player of the Year and a member of the All-East Division First Team.
Cronin, a Celina, Texas, native, owns a 3.87 GPA and majors in kinesiology. The Academic All-America honorees are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
To be
eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete
must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A.
of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic
standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her
sports information director.
