    Thompson earns FPN NCAA DIII National Player of the Week

    Cheyenne Thompson started her sophomore season in style by going 5-for-6 with a home run and six RBI for the Patriots who opened the season with a pair of shutout wins last Friday against Pacific and Centenary. Thompson went 4-for-4 with four RBI in the 8-0 win over Centenary, including a two-run home run and three singles. She would finish the two games 2-for-2 on stolen bases and also walked once. Thompson hit .403 with 23 RBI and two home runs as a freshman for the Patriots.

    The No. 1-ranked UT Tyler softball team will open its 2017 season on Friday with a pair of non-conference games against Pacific University and Centenary at Suddenlink Field. The Patriots are the defending NCAA Division III National Champions who went 49-5 overall, 29-0 in American Southwest Conference play and were 22-2 on their home field. UT Tyler plays its first game at 3 p.m. against the Boxers of Pacific University before taking on the Ladies of Centenary at 5 p.m. in its first games since dogpiling after a 2-0 win over Linfield on May 21, 2016 to celebrate winning the Tyler Super Regional.

Each day the Patriots started tutoring the students and helping them with homework for an hour before splitting up into groups for physical activities. Each day was different, including a kick ball day, fitness Olympics day and basketball.

    Five members of the University of Texas at Tyler softball program have earned National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America Scholar-Athlete honors for the 2014-15 academic year for their contributions in the Patriots historic season and their accomplishments in the classroom. Vanessa Carrizales, Jackie Mendez, Shelby Shelton, Amanda Lopez and Rose Sullivan earned the NFCA academic honor and were the only members of the American Southwest Conference to receive the recognition.

    A celebration of the past and look into the future will be on display starting at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at Suddenlink Field as the UT Tyler softball program hosts its ninth annual Alumni Game. A ceremony prior to the game will honor the 2015 Patriots who were the NCAA Division III National Runner-Up and finished the season with a 50-5 overall record and a 29-1 American Southwest Conference record.

    Softball Opens NCAA Regional Play Against Southwestern

    The 2nd-ranked University of Texas at Tyler softball team will open NCAA Regional play on Friday at Louisiana College's Coca-Cola Field, taking on Southwestern University out of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. First pitch of Friday's game is set for 2 p.m. on the UT Tyler Sports Network.
