TYLER – The No. 2-ranked UT Tyler softball team (25-2, 15-1 ASC) returns to action this weekend with a three-game series at Concordia starting with a 4 p.m. doubleheader on Friday and then a 10 a.m. series finale on Saturday in Austin.

UT Tyler is coming off a three-game sweep of No. 16 UT Dallas and will return to conference play this weekend when they play a three-game set at Concordia in Austin. UT Tyler head coach Mike Reed enters this week with 599 career victories which makes him the winningest coach in ASC history, the fourth winningest coach in NCAA Division III history and the third winningest active coach in the division. Reed is the only head coach in UT Tyler softball history and guided the program to the 2016 NCAA Division III National Championship.

Kaylee Prather leads the Patriots by hitting .531 and with 51 total hits this season, while Cheyenne Thompson has 34 RBI and KK Stevens has nine home runs. Prather is the program’s all-time leader in batting average at .467 (200 min.) and has a .579 on-base percentage and 56 stolen bases in her career for the Patriots. A senior from Elysian Fields, Prather is on a 10-game hitting streak and is the only Patriot to have reached base in all 27 games this season. Stevens, a senior from Plano, hit two home runs last weekend against the Comets and now has 27 in her career. She has started 181 games at catcher in her career and is currently second on the team with 33 RBI. Thompson leads the team in RBI and doubles with 11 and is hitting .462 this season. A sophomore from Mexia, she is second on the team with six home runs and second with 28 runs scored.

UT Tyler leads the nation with a .411 team batting average with Prather (.531), Thompson (.462), Courtney Fisher (.448), Stevens (.427), Lexi Ackroyd (.422), Mel Hinojosa (.413), Andrea Gonzales (.392), Bianca Van Vlerah (.390) and Hannah Moore (.310) leading the way from the starting lineup. The Patriots have outscored opponents by a 234-51 margin with 68 doubles, five triples, 21 home runs and 205 singles. The team is 46-for-50 on stolen bases with Prather leading the way with 19 steals while Kursten Jaime has 10 and Thompson eight.

Alaina Kissinger comes into this weekend with a 13-0 record this season and a 57-2 career record. A senior from Telephone, Kissinger has a 1.06 ERA in her career which is the best in program history. She has 52 strikeouts in 82 1/3 innings pitched this season and 340 in her career. Whitney Romero is 9-1 and Miranda Leal 3-1 for the Patriots in their freshman seasons. Romero struck out five and limited the Comets to one run in seven innings last Saturday and now leads the team with a 0.81 ERA and has 52 strikeouts in 60 2/3 innings. Leal would earn the win in the finale on Sunday against UTD after throwing five innings of relief. She has made eight appearances, including earning a win in relief in the finale at ETBU. The UT Tyler pitching staff has a 1.85 ERA and has limited opponents to a .214 batting average coming into this week.
