TYLER – UT Tyler sophomore Cheyenne Thompson was honored on Tuesday as the Fastpitchnews.com NCAA Division III National Player of the Week and the American Southwest Conference Player of the Week after opening the season 5-for-6 with six RBI in a pair of Patriot wins last Friday at Suddenlink Field.
A Mexia native, Thompson was 4-for-4 with a home run and four RBI in the win over Centenary after going 1-for-2 with two RBI in the season opener against Pacific. Thompson is coming off a freshman season where she hit .403 with 31 total hits and 23 RBI during UT Tyler’s NCAA DIII National Championship season.
Thompson and the Patriots (2-0) open American Southwest Conference play this weekend they play at Hardin-Simmons on Friday and Saturday. The three-game set begins at 3 p.m. on Friday before a doubleheader starting at noon on Saturday in Abilene.
