TYLER -- The University of Texas at Tyler's men's soccer team spent some valuable time at the East Texas Food Bank in Tyler on Saturday, taking time out of their busy schedule to give back to the community.
The Patriots spent time packing boxes of food that would be delivered to senior citizens across the area.
Tim Butler, Volunteer Coordinator at the food bank says that the organization only employs 50 staff members, making the time volunteers give, vital in the work they do.
"People like you are the backbone to this organization" said Butler.
In just a few short hours of packing boxes, the team helped feed over 450 senior citizens and their spouses across the East Texas area.
Trevor Self, a freshman from New Braunfels said of the experience, "it is great to be able to help those who need it, it was a great experience".
Since 1988, the East Texas Food Bank, a 501 nonprofit
organization, has provided food to over 200 partner agencies, in an
effort to feed children, the working poor and seniors throughout 26 counties in East Texas. A member of Feeding America,
