by Peyton Low

TYLER -- Cristy O’Bannon, formerly the head volleyball coach at All Saints Episcopal School in Tyler, has joined the UT Tyler volleyball staff as the Patriots’ full-time assistant coach, head coach Suzanne Truitt has announced.

O’Bannon is the winningest coach in All Saints history, with a combined record of 207-85 since becoming the Trojans’ head coach in 2003.  Her teams advanced to the playoffs each season and were state runners-up in 2006, 2007 and 2008.  In 2008, she was named All-East Texas Co-Coach of the Year by the Tyler Morning Telegraph after her team completed a 34-5 season.

“I'm tremendously excited to have a coach of Cristy's caliber joining the program here at UT Tyler,” Truitt said.  “I really look forward to working with her and she will be a great asset to our players and the University.”

O’Bannon was selected to coach the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools all-star volleyball game three times.

She has also served six seasons as the Trojans’ head girls track and field coach.

She is a member of the American Volleyball Coaches Association, the Texas Girls Coaches Association, the Texas Private School Coaches Association and the Texas Track & Field Coaches Association.

O’Bannon is a 1995 graduate of UT Tyler.
