CLAREMONT, Cal. -- UT Tyler's Buck Thompson, the Patriots first-ever multi-event qualifier to the NCAA Track & Field Championships, finished with an All-American performance at the 2012 Championships this weekend.
Thompson earned All-America honors by finishing in fifth place in the men's discus with a 52.64-meter throw. The national championship throw came from Whitworth's Carter Comito at 57.86-meters.
Thompson had throws of 50.97, 49.9, 50.84 and 51.43-meters as well.
A sophomore, Thompson also qualified for the NCAAs in the shot put where he came in 16th with a 15.65-meter mark. McMurry's Paul Davis won the event with an 18.55-meter throw.
Thompson was UT Tyler's lone representative at this year's NCAA Championships.
