TYLER -- The UT Tyler tennis teams received their NCAA postseason desitinations, with the hopes of bringing home the first NCAA national championship in school history. Both the men and women begin play Friday, May 11.
After winning their fifth American Southwest Conference championship in-a-row a week ago, the Patriots will head to the NCAA first-round in Atlanta, Georgia, to take on Washington & Lee (21-3), champions of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. The Generals finished up conference play with an undefeated conference record.
Emory (20-0), the no. 2 ranked team in the country, will serve as host of the NCAA first-round, and will take on the winner between UT-Tyler and Washington & Lee.
The Patriots women (18-4), undefeated champions of the ASC, will head to Claremont, California to take on at-large recipient Pomona-Pitzer (14-7) on Friday. UT Tyler won it's fifth consecutive conference championship, and look to advance past the first round of the NCAA tournament for the first time in school history.
The winner of the matchup between the Patriots and Sagehens will have a Saturday showdown with Trinity (Tx) (18-7). Earlier in the season, UT Tyler defeated Trinity, 5-4.
