RECAP: @UTTyler_Spirit begins STUNT season

OKLAHOMA CITY - The UT Tyler Cheer and STUNT team began its inaugural season last Saturday, winning its first game (15-2) in program history against Independence Community College at the Oklahoma City STUNT tournament.

The Patriots (1-3 overall) defeated Independence Community College (KS) after playing up against Division II STUNT teams, Alma College (20-1) and Oklahoma Baptist University (15-2) during the first day of the two-day event. 

The marquee matchup against Oklahoma City University came down to the fourth quarter. UT Tyler tied the first quarter 2-2 and continued to score points on OCU making it a close (4-5) going into halftime down by one. OCU took a two-point lead heading into the fourth quarter, but then the Patriots scored three points compared to seven for the Stars for the eight-point win.

Freshman and first-year member of the Patriots Cheer team, Gracie McDonald, said "Competing this weekend in STUNT the Sport has been an experience of a lifetime." 


The Patriots will conclude the regular-season portion of their STUNT schedule with another two-day tournament in Oklahoma City on Saturday and Sunday, taking on the University of Central Oklahoma as part of the Big 12 Oklahoma City, STUNT Tournament.
