RECAP: @UTTylerWGolf takes third in Victoria

VICTORIA  – The UT Tyler women's golf team finished third in a tournament consisting of NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA, and junior college programs competing at the Claud Jacobs Collegiate on Monday. The tournament was hosted by the University of Houston-Victoria and played The Club at Colony Creek.

UT Tyler closed out the final round with an overall score of 313-359 – 667, right behind Western Texas CC who finished with a 313-354 –667. Texas Wesleyan won the tournament with ann overall score of 624 and Tyler JC finished in fourth with a total score of 679. Trailing them were St. Thomas, Northwestern OK St., Schreiner, Wayland Baptist, Ranger CC, Texas A&M-International, and Southwestern,

Katelyn Hicken finished the tournament with a 79-86—165 which led to a 14th place finish and ended her final round with two birdies and 6 pars.  Amy Cox finished her round with an 89 that put her overall score at 167 and in 18th place. Junior Taylor Denton shot a 93 and Hannah Washburn shot a 91 in their final rounds that led to finishes in the top 26 players.

"We were fairly solid the first day with a good first round back," UT Tyler coach Grant Spencer said. "We were excited about day two, but the wind was way up and there were about five greens that were virtually not puttable."

Texas Wesleyan’s Alex Schies won the tournament with a tournament score of 70-79 – 149 (+5) and Tyler JC’s Mathilde Bertuol came in second with a score of 76075 –151 (+7).

The Patriots will take a break off from competition next week before they travel to Pottsboro, TX to compete in the Lion Invitational at Tanglewood Resort. The tournament is hosted by Texas A&M Commerce and the majority of the competition is Division II.
