RECAP: Richardson sets @UTT_TF 400-meter record

COLLEGE STATION – UT Tyler junior Zach Richardson set a new 400-meter program record by running a 48.94, while Kaylee Prather leaped 5.44 meters to finish second in the long jump to highlight Patriot performances at the Aggie Twilight in Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium.

Michaela McGeary also extend her shot put record with a throw of 11.72 meters which had her second in the event, while Richardson ran a 22.25 in the 200 for eighth. His time of 48.94 is the 25th best time in NCAA Division III. Prather also ran a 7.85 in the 60 for a personal best which puts her 26th nationally in the event. 

Richardson’s new program record in the 400 broke the time of 49.89 from Ricky Hall at last year’s Texas A&M event. A junior from Waxahachie, Richardson has the top time in the American Southwest Conference in the 60, 400 and 200 this year. His time of 22.25 in the 200 is the second best time in program history behind Kevonte Shaw who ran a 21.68 in 2015 at Boston University. It also topped his time of 22.59 from last week’s meet.

A senior from Elysian Fields, Prather jump of 5.44 on Saturday in College State topped her mark of 5.32 meters from last week’s Broncho Open in Norman, Oklahoma.

In the men’s weight throw, Nikelas Simmons finished 10th with a mark of 12.80 meters.

UT Tyler will host the East Texas Time Trials next Friday at the Grace Community School in its first outdoor event.
