TYLER – With an 8-2 record on its home court this season, the UT Tyler men’s basketball team will now host UT Dallas at 4 p.m. on Saturday in its Herrington Patriot Center finale following wins over East Texas Baptist last Saturday and Ozarks on Monday.

The Patriots (15-7, 8-7 ASC) will honor their senior class of Melvin Anthony, Skyler Hadden, Chase Mason and Josh Tatum before the game against the Comets (16-6, 12-3 ASC). UT Tyler is on a two-game winning streak, while UTD has won seven straight after the Patriots went into Richardson and earned a 73-59 win over the Comets.

Tatum became the all-time UT Tyler assists leader on Monday and now has 209 assists in his two years with the Patriots. A Keller native, he transferred from Weatherford College and has played in 48 games. He’s also the program leader with 4.4 assists per game and is averaging 10.8 points per game. Tatum is currently 10th in the nation with 132 assists this season and 13th with 6.0 assists per game. Anthony is a three-year player for the Patriots after transferring from Arkansas-Fort Smith as a sophomore. A Killeen native, he has scored 708 points in his career and is averaging 16.3 points and 7.2 rebounds per game as a senior. He has 50 blocked shots in his career which ranks second, while his 7.0 rebound per game is the third best for a career at UT Tyler. Hadden is a Waco native who is in his second season in Tyler. He is averaging 12.8 points and 5.4 rebounds per game this season and is sixth in the ASC with a 54.3 shooting percentage. He scored a career-high 27 points at ETBU three weeks ago and had a career-best four blocked shots in the first game against the Comets in the first matchup. Mason is also in his second season with the Patriots where he has played in 41 games over that time. A San Angelo native, Mason is averaging 5.4 points per game as a senior, including hitting on 19 3-pointers.

UT Tyler sophomore Emeka Obukwelu is currently fifth in the nation with a 69.3 shooting percentage and leads the Patriots with 20.5 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. A Plano native, Obukwelu leads the ASC with nine double-doubles, including scoring 19 points and grabbing 10 rebounds at UT Dallas in the first game against the Comets. He scored a UT Tyler single-game high with 43 points earlier this season against Rhodes and went for 32 against ETBU last Saturday after dropping 33 against LeTourneau two days before. The sophomore class also includes Johnell Lane who is in his first season with the Patriots and is averaging 11.9 points per game. Lane is leading the Patriots with 50 3-pointers made this season and is shooting 37.9 percent from beyond the arc which ranks fifth in the conference.

UT Tyler’s depth includes Xavier Fogle who is adding 5.4 points and 3.2 rebounds per game and Davis Moore who is at 4.9 points per game. Moore is coming off a career-high 19 points and six 3-pointers made in the win over Ozarks. A Martin’s Mill native, he is adding 1.2 assists per game this season.

UT Tyler will finish off the regular season next week with road games at Belhaven in Jackson, Mississippi on Thursday and at Louisiana College next Saturday in Pineville, Louisiana.
