TYLER – On a five-game winning streak and with a 10-1 record at home, the UT Tyler women’s basketball team will host UT Dallas at 2 p.m. on Saturday in its Herrington Patriot Center regular-season finale.

The Patriots (15-7, 11-4 ASC) are currently third in the American Southwest Conference East Division behind the Comets (18-4, 13-2 ASC) who lead the division and ETBU which is 12-3 in ASC play with two of those loses coming to UTT. The ASC East Division champion will host the ASC Championship tournament in three weeks. The Comets earned a 55-48 win over the Patriots in the first matchup of the season on Jan. 18 in Richardson by limiting UT Tyler to a season-low 32.3 percent shooting. The Patriots have not lost since.

UT Tyler will honor its senior class of Demi Cumby, Brittany Johnson, Alexus Bertrand and Alex Kochner before the game. A Mesquite native, Bertrand has played all four years at UT Tyler and in 72 games. She is averaging 6.5 points per game this season and leads the Patriots with 43 assists. For her career, she has recorded 166 assists and 80 points. In her second season with Patriots after transferring from San Jacinto College, Kochner leads the team this season with 12.1 points and 8.4 rebounds per game. She has recorded six double-doubles after scoring 19 points and grabbing 12 rebounds in Monday’s win over Ozarks and comes into Senior Day with 463 career points in 42 games played. For her UT Tyler career, Kochner is averaging 11 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. After starting her career at Hill College, Johnson has now played in 36 games in two seasons with the Patriots. She is averaging 11.4 points per game this season and leads the team with 49 3-pointers. She scored a career-high in last weekend’s win at LeTourneau and has made five 3-pointers in four games in her career. Cumby is an Athens native who is in her second season with the Patriots after playing at McLennan College for two years. She is averaging 9.8 points and 5.0 rebounds per game this season, including scoring a career-high 24 points in a win at Ozarks. She comes into Saturday’s game against UTD with 359 points and 180 rebounds in her career.

UT Tyler sophomore Carissa Spiker is adding 11.8 points and 4.8 rebounds per game, while juniors Bianca Valderrama is at 8.2 points and 5.3 rebounds and Samantha Odom is contributing 7.8 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. Spiker has scored 15 points in the past two games after a career-high 25-point performance on Feb. 1 against LeTourneau. Valderrama led UT Tyler with 11 points and five rebounds in the first game against UT Dallas.

UT Tyler comes into Saturday’s game averaging 73.8 points per game and shooting 41.8 percent, while the Comets are averaging 65.5 points per game but are limiting their opponents to 53.4 points and 36.3 percent shooting. Victoria Pena leads UT Dallas with 15.9 points and 7.2 rebounds per game, including a game-high 23 points and 11 rebounds in the win over the Patriots in the first meeting.

UT Tyler will finish off the regular season next week with road games at Belhaven in Jackson, Mississippi on Thursday and at Louisiana College next Saturday in Pineville, Louisiana.
