LONGVIEW – The UT Tyler men’s basketball team took a 101-78 loss to LeTourneau on Saturday in an American Southwest Conference East Division game at the Solheim Arena.

The Patriots (13-6, 6-6 ASC) dropped their second straight road game after falling by one point at East Texas Baptist on Thursday and now find themselves in fourth place in the ASC East Division standings after the first round of games against their division opponents. UTT, which came into the game with a 50.8 shooting percentage, shot 44.3 percent in the game which was only the fourth time all season that it was under 45 percent shooting. LeTourneau won its fourth straight game and is now 10-2 in ASC play. The YellowJackets are the only team to score over 100 points against the Patriots this season and the first since Hardin-Simmons in a triple-overtime game in December, 2016.

Skyler Hadden led the Patriots in scoring for the second straight game after recording 18 points and eight rebounds in the loss, while Emeka Obukwelu had 16 points and five rebounds. Xavier Fogle went for 12 points and Josh Tatum added 10 points and four assists for the Patriots who were 31-for-70 from the field, including going 8-for-19 on 3-pointers. UTT was 8-for-10 at the free-throw line, but saw the YellowJackets hit 11 3-pointers and go 14-for-16 from the line in the game.

LeTourneau, which won last year’s ASC East Division title, was led by Nate West who had a double-double with 28 points and 11 rebounds. West also added a game-high eight assists, while Caleb Loggins scored 24 points after going 6-for-6 at the free-throw line and 9-for-16 from the floor. The YellowJackets improved to 7-1 on their home court, while the Patriots are 7-5 away from Tyler on the season.

At halftime, Obukwelu and Hadden had 12 points each for 24 of UT Tyler’s 38 points in the first half where the team shot 53.1 percent from the field but trailed 46-38 to the YellowJackets. The Patriots were limited to 3-for-8 on 3-pointers and committed eight turnovers, but were down only eight points with LeTourneau struggling by shooting 4-for-13 on 3-pointers.

In the second game of the ASC East Division home-and-away series, UT Tyler will host LeTourneau on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. inside the Herrington Patriot Center before playing ETBU on Saturday in the rematch of the 80-79 heartbreaker last week in Marshall.
