TYLER –The UT Tyler women’s tennis team has been picked to win the American Southwest Conference East Division title in a vote last week by the head coaches of the conference. UT Tyler received 72 points and 7 first-place votes for the East Division and UT Dallas led the votes for the West Division with 10 to be preseason favorites.

“I’m a bit surprised we were picked to win the East, but I believe it was the right choice,” UT Tyler coach Adam Cohen said. “However, we won’t be satisfied unless we win the entire ASC. On paper we are a little over matched but we will overcome that with hard work, commitment to the details, and passion for our game. We have two seniors accompanied with a number of talented players that haven’t even begun to see what they are capable of. But they soon will. Needless to say, I’m excited to see my team rise to this challenge.”

The women won the East Division regular-season title in 2017 with an overall record of 13-9 and 4-0 in the ASC. The Patriots will start their 2018 season in Tyler on Saturday, Feb. 3 with matches against Hardin-Simmons at 9 a.m. and McMurry at 2 p.m. at the Summers Tennis Center.

UT Tyler senior transfer Marisa Quevedo and freshman Caitlyn Cox were both named to the ASC Preseason Players to Watch List which highlights individual selections from the conference's coaches. Along with Quevedo and Cox, the 2018 roster includes Alexis Arrieta, Emily Danielson, Molly Hinkle, Kaleigh Jantzen, Victoria Kniffen, Lauren Kuhn, Rachel Maloy, Alexandra McKissick, Nancy Perez, Alaska Raper, Braelynn Seely and Savannah Seely.
