RICHARDSON – UT Tyler senior Alex Kochner hit a layup and a free throw to convert an and-one to cut the Patriot deficit to three with 48 seconds to play but UT Dallas would score the final four points of the game hold on to extend its eight-game winning streak with a 55-48 victory on Thursday in an American Southwest Conference contest at the UTD Activity Center.

The Patriots (10-7, 6-4 ASC) had a three-game winning streak snapped and fell to 3-6 away from Tyler with the loss, while the Comets improved to 13-2 overall and to 7-1 in conference play. UT Dallas won the game at the free-throw line by going 15-for-19 and the Patriots being limited to 4-for-7 at the line. UT Tyler was reduced to 32.3 percent shooting in the game, including going 4-for-22 on 3-pointers while UTD overcame a night where it was 2-for-13 on 3-pointers and committed 28 turnovers.

Bianca Valderrama led UT Tyler with 11 points and grabbed five rebounds, while Carissa Spiker added 10 points, two steals, two assists and four rebounds. Demi Cumby went for seven points and seven rebounds for the Patriots and Kochner would finish with eight points and three blocks, but also had seven of the team’s 24 turnovers. The Patriots were limited to 1-for-7 on 3-pointers in the second half with Brittany Johnson and Spiker both going 0-for-7 from beyond the arc in the game and Alexus Bertrand, Kochner, Elisha Leathers and Cumby hitting one each. Bertrand led the team with four steals, but finished with three points after going 1-for-5 from the field.

UT Tyler will return to action next week with road games against East Texas Baptist on Thursday, Jan. 25 in Marshall and at LeTourneau on Saturday, Jan. 27 in Longview. The Patriots will the play four home games in a row, starting with a Thursday, Feb. 1 game against LeTourneau.
