TYLER – All five UT Tyler starters scored in double figures and the Patriots surpassed 100 points for the first time in American Southwest Conference play in a 104-85 win over Belhaven on Saturday at the Herrington Patriot Center.

The Patriots (12-4, 5-4 ASC) won their second straight game and improved to 6-1 on their home court after shooting 55.1 percent from the field, including hitting 12 3-pointers. UT Tyler, who had 32 team assists which is the third most in a game in program history, owned a 48-31 rebounding advantage over the Blazers (3-11, 2-6 ASC) who were limited to 37.1 percent shooting in the second half as the Patriots padded a 53-44 halftime lead to run away with the win.

Emeka Obukwelu led the Patriots with 30 points, four blocks and eight rebounds, while Melvin Anthony had 18 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three blocked shots. Obukwelu recorded his second career 30-plus point performance with his other being the 43 points to establish a new UT Tyler single-game record. On Saturday, the UT Tyler sophomore was 13-for-15 from the field and 4-for-5 at the free-throw line to accumulate his 30 points. He is now shooting 75.1 percent from the field and leads the Patriots with 20.1 points and 8.8 rebounds per game.

Skyler Hadden led the Patriots with seven assists while also having 11 points and six rebounds in the win, while Johnell Lane hit four 3-pointers and finished with 15 points and Josh Tatum added 10 points. Lane and Tatum each had six assists in the game for the Patriots, while Xavier Fogle led the bench with six rebounds, four assists and five points. UT Tyler had 12 players score in the game and finished with a 48-28 scoring advantage in the paint.

UT Tyler will return to action at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday against UT Dallas in Richardson in their only game of the week before traveling to play at East Texas Baptist and LeTourneau in two weeks. The Patriots will return home to play LeTourneau on Thursday, Feb. 1 in their next home game.
