ALPINE – The UT Tyler women’s basketball team raced out to a 30-point halftime lead and continued unleashing fury in a 95-49 win over Sul Ross on Saturday in an American Southwest Conference game at the Gallego Center.

The Patriots (8-6, 4-3 ASC) led 52-22 at halftime in their highest scoring first half of the season and would finish the game with a season-high 13 3-pointers and two points shy of the 97 they dropped against Centenary earlier this season. UT Tyler finished the game shooting 33-for-66 (50 percent) and was 13-for-26 from beyond the arc (50 percent).

Demi Cumby led the Patriots with 15 points and six rebounds after going 6-for-10 from the field, while Brittany Johnson had 14 points after going 3-for-3 on 3-pointers. Alex Kochner scored all 13 of her points in the first half and would finish with a game-high eight rebounds and five assists. Bianca Valderrama added 12 points and seven rebounds and Carissa Spiker had 10 points and three assists from the starting lineup.

The Patriots led the game by as many as 48 points, while the Lobos never had the lead on their home court. UTT would own a 30-18 scoring advantage in in the paint and an 18-2 second-chance scoring margin. The Patriot bench scored 38 points, led by Cumby’s 15 and Samantha Odom who had eight points.

UT Tyler shot 52.6 percent from the field and limited Sul Ross to 20 percent in the first half, including going 6-for-10 on 3-pointers to jump out to their 52-22 advantage after 20 minutes. Kochner led the Patriots with 13 points and four rebounds at halftime after hitting two of the six 3-pointers, while Cumby had 10 points after going 4-for-5 from the field. Johnson and Valderrama added six each for the Patriots who improved to 3-5 away from home.

UT Tyler will return home to host Louisiana College on Thursday and Belhaven on Saturday, Jan. 13 for its alumni game and only home stand of the month of January. The Patriots and Wildcats will tip-off at 5:30 p.m., while the Saturday afternoon game is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Herrington Patriot Center.
