ROME, Georgia – Arthur Fagundes fell 6-1, 6-4 in the first round of the ITA Oracle Cup on Thursday to Daniel Levine of Carnegie Mellon who is the second seed in the tournament. Fagundes will play at 8 a.m. (CST) on Friday on the back draw of the tournament against Brian Grodecki from Williams College at the Rome Tennis Center.

WEDNESDAY: UT Tyler junior Arthur Fagundes earned a 6-2, 6-4 win over Spencer Watanabe in a Northwest/Southwest play-in on Wednesday at the ITA Oracle Cup to advance at the Rome Tennis Center. In doubles play, Fagundes and Pablo Gomez were eliminated from the tournament with a 6-3, 6-3 loss to Zach Hewlin and Rober Carter from Whitman College. 

A junior from Brazil, Fagundes also knocked out Watanabe in last year’s play-in round to advance at the national tournament and will now play Carnegie Mellon’s Daniel Levine at 10 a.m. on Thursday in the first round of the tournament. The winner of the Fagundes/Levine match advances to play the winner of Brian Grodecki (Williams) and Chase Lipscomb (Redlands) in the quarterfinals.

Gomez and Fagundes advanced to the ITA Oracle Cup after winning the ITA Southwest Championships two weeks ago in San Antonio.
