TYLER – Brieanne Brown slammed down 11 kills, Makenna Bartlett dug 23 shots and Reighanna Guzman distributed 21 assists to help lead the UT Tyler volleyball team to an American Southwest Conference sweep over East Texas Baptist on Tuesday as the Patriots snapped an 11-match losing streak to the Tigers with the home win at the Herrington Patriot Center.

The Patriots (10-2, 3-1 ASC) improved to 4-1 on their home court and swept their seventh opponent, while ETBU (5-9, 1-1 ASC) dropped its fifth straight match after it had opened ASC play with an upset win over UT Dallas last week. UT Tyler, which won the match 25-17, 25-22, 25-13, had not beat ETBU since a sweep on Oct. 18, 2011 in Marshall.

Brown finished the match with a .391 attacking percentage and her team-leading 11 kills, while Brianna Bellehumeur, Samantha Lee and Loren Guerra had seven kills each. Guerra led the team with three blocks, while Lee led the team with a .400 attacking percentage. UT Tyler would finished the match with a .256 attack, while the defense limited the Tigers to a .085 percentage. Guzman, a junior who played her freshman season at ETBU, had 7.00 assists per set and also added four digs in the match and now has 247 assists this season. Madison Denning added 16 assists and three digs in the match.

Bartlett now has 183 digs this season after having 23 in the three-set match, while Bellehumeur added 17 digs which is her eighth double-digit dig performance of her freshman season. Blair Dressendorfer would contributed five kills and three digs and Haley Nemitz had four kills and two block assists. UT Tyler freshman Alex Contreras came in and gave the Patriots a spark in the second set and finished with three kills after having only one through the first 11 matches this season. UT Tyler’s only senior, Brown now has 765 career kills which is the fifth most in program history.

UT Tyler will return to action this weekend with three matches at the ASC Crossover in Longview, starting with a 10 a.m. match on Friday against Howard Payne before playing Hardin-Simmons and Concordia on Saturday afternoon at the Solheim Arena.
