TYLER – The UT Tyler volleyball team swept Rhodes College in its final match of the Dakotas Patriot Classic after opening Saturday with a three-set loss to Texas Lutheran at the Herrington Patriot Center.

The Patriots (7-1) went 3-1 in their home tournament and will now travel to Longview on Wednesday to open American Southwest Conference play at LeTourneau.

Madison Denning led the Patriots with 20 assists and added six digs in the win over Rhodes, while Brieanne Brown led the team with nine kills and also had two block assists. Brianna Bellehumeur, Blair Dressendorfer and Loren Guerra each had seven kills in the sweep and Makenna Bartlett had 11 digs as the team’s libero. UT Tyler had six blocks in the match with Samantha Lee and Guerra leading the team with three each.

Brown also led the team with 10 kills in the loss to TLU, while Reighanna Guzman had 14 assists and eight digs in the only loss for the Patriots this season. The Patriots, who matched a program record by starting the season with six straight wins, bounced back from their loss with the fourth sweep of their season against Rhodes.

Bellehumeur leads the Patriots through eight matches with 72 kills and has 87 digs, while Dressendorfer has 70 kills. Lee already has 29 blocks on the season and Guzman has 166 assists and Denning 104. As a team, UT Tyler is hitting .208 and has a 482-407 dig advantage over its opponents.

UT Tyler will play the YellowJackets at 7 p.m. on Friday before travelling to play Louisiana College at 7 p.m. on Friday. The team will be back home on Tuesday, Sept. 19 when they host East Texas Baptist.
