TYLER – UT Tyler head softball coach Mike Reed has announced the addition of another NFCA All-American to his coaching staff with the hiring of Leah Brown who was a two-time All-America during her playing career at Mary Hardin-Baylor.

A Crawford native, Brown holds the all-time records in career home run, RBI, runs, hits, total bases and slugging percentage in Cru softball history. She was a four-year starter at third base and joins the UT Tyler coaching staff after graduating from UMHB with a degree in Exercise Physiology.

“We are excited to add Leah to our staff,” Reed said. “She is a proven winner and one of the most accomplished players to have played in the ASC. I have witnessed her drive and determination first hand these last four years. We are excited to have her bring those same qualities as coach working with our student-athletes.”

Brown finished her playing career with 34 home runs, 159 RBI and a .413 batting average. She earned NFCA All-American honors as a junior and senior along with being a three-time all-region and four-time All-ASC selection. Brown was a state champion and all-state softball player at Crawford High School where she also competed in volleyball, basketball and track & field before excelling at the collegiate level at UMHB.

She joins a UT Tyler coaching staff that includes Whitney Wyly who earned two NFCA All-America honors during her playing career with the Patriots in 2009 and 2010. UT Tyler, which won the 2016 NCAA DIII National Championship, is coming off a 46-6 record and its third straight NCAA Division III Championship appearance.
