    The No. 3 ranked UT Tyler Patriots won their fifth American Southwest Conference tournament title in school history, taking down the ETBU Tigers 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at Suddenlink field. The Patriots (38-1, 26-1 ASC) victory was their 31st in a row and secures an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III national tournament. The Tigers (33-11, 24-6 ASC) will have to wait until Monday to see if they will receive an at-large bid.

The tournament this year has expanded to eight teams and the winner will be the ASC’s automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III national tournament. UT Tyler will not play on the first day of the tournament and will begin the postseason at 1 p.m. on Friday after a day of elimination games on Thursday.

    Colleen Bentke has earned her second ASC Pitcher of the Week honor after throwing a no-hitter with a career-high 10 strikeouts to lead UT Tyler to a 3-0 series-opening win over Ozarks on Friday and then striking out five in a series finale win on Saturday to improve to 17-1 on the season. Bentke has recorded 94 strikeouts and has a 0.79 ERA entering the final week of the regular season for the Patriots.

    The No. 3-ranked UT Tyler softball team clinched their seventh straight American Southwest Conference regular season title on Saturday with an 8-0 win over University of the Ozarks at Suddenlink Field. The Patriots (32-1, 23-1 ASC) displayed their home run hitting abilities with three bombs throughout the game in the run and have now won 25 straight games. Ozarks (7-21, 7-17 ASC) will close out their regular season next weekend against McMurry University.

    Lynsey Mitchell has earned her second straight ASC Hitter of the Week honor after an incredible weekend where she went 8-for-9 with three home runs and 14 RBIs to lead the Patriots to a three-game sweep of UT Dallas over the weekend in Richardson. Mitchell started the series by going 2-for-3 with a homer and four RBIs in the opener, followed by going 3-for-4 with a double and four RBIs in the second game. Having already put up an astonishing weekend, Mitchell completed the series by going 3-for-3 with two home runs and six RBIs in the finale. She is now hitting .552 with 37 RBIs and nine home runs for the season.

Mitchell finished the weekend by going 5-for-8 with two home runs and a two-run triple. She is now hitting .490 with six home runs and 23 RBIs in her first season with the Patriots.

    AWARD: Perez earns ASC Offensive Player of the Week

    UT Tyler freshman Ashley Perez started her collegiate career by driving in 12 runs and hitting .467 with two home runs and three doubles for the Patriots who went 5-0 in the first week of the season. Perez was 2-for-4 in the season-opener at Southwestern with two RBI and then produced four RBI in the second game of the doubleheader. On the road in Abilene, she started the three-game series by going 2-for-3 with two more RBI in the opener and then had her second four-RBI performance in the second game of the series when she hit a three-run home run in the first inning and then had another RBI on a walk later in the game.
