UT Tyler XC opens season with King Campbell Spectacular

TYLER – The UT Tyler cross country season opened on Friday with strong showings from Holly Nohavitza who finished second in the women’s race and Will McIlroy who took third on the men’s side of the King Campbell Rock & Roll Spectacular on the Patriots' campus.

McIlroy ran a 10:05 for third, while teammates Nathan Adams was fourth with a time of 10:06 and Quinton Bryson took fifth with a 10:18. The three top-5 Patriots were behind Dontayveous Allen of Jarvis Christian who won the meet with a 9:55.

A senior captain, Nohavitza finished second by running a 12:21 two-mile race while Rachel Willis was fifth with a 12:40 time. Fellow team captain, Bethany Cox, would take seventh by completing the course in a time of 12:55 and Lauren Halliday was 10th (13:08). Stephanie Pierce (13:09) and Tristin Salem (13:14) finished just outside of the top-10 in their first collegiate races.

Shelby Taylor won the race with a time of 12:10 for East Texas Baptist.

UT Tyler will host the Braveheart Invitational next Friday in its final home meet of the season.
