TYLER – The UT Tyler baseball team responded from dropping the series opener with a Senior Day doubleheader sweep on Saturday with 9-3 and 9-7 wins over Howard Payne in the final games of the season at Irwin Field.

The Patriots (22-13) will finish off the regular-season with four games next week, starting with a Monday night game against Southwestern in Georgetown before playing a three-game ASC series against Sul Ross in Alpine. UT Tyler went 16-8 at home this season and have secured a spot in the ASC tournament.

Trenton Buchhorn led the Patriots in the opener by driving in five runs on a 2-for-3 day at the plate, while starter Nate Imig (5-2) earned the win by striking out five and scattering eight hits in five inning of work. Buchhorn had a double in the game and now has a team and conference-leading 48 RBI this season. He would have one hit in the second game but no RBI. UT Tyler scored five runs in the sixth inning of the first game to earn the win.

Tyler Stallings (5-1) would earn the win in relief in a game where the Patriots would score the final three runs of the game with two in the sixth and one in the seventh. Graham Welch hit his national-leading ninth triple of the season to drive in two runs, while Blake Wilson also had two hits and two RBI for the Patriots. Alex Bishop would hit a two-run single in the sixth to give the Patriots a one-run lead, while Brady McCoy would hit an RBI double in the seventh for the two-run cushion. Daniel Williams hit two doubles in the first game and finished the series with four doubles.

Bishop is now leading the Patriots with a .415 average and 51 hits through 36 games, while Welch has 50 hits and Buchhorn is at 49.
