TYLER – Cason Adams struck out seven and threw a complete-game shutout while Trenton Buchhorn extended a 12-game RBI streak with a bases-loaded walk in the sixth inning to lead No. 20 UT Tyler to a 5-0 series-opening win over Ozarks on Friday at Irwin Field.

Adams (5-1) earned the first complete-game shutout of his season and the third of his career for the Patriots (20-10, 9-4 ASC) who are now 14-4 at home this season coming into a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday against the Eagles (10-19, 3-13 ASC). Buchhorn, who now leads the Patriots with 40 RBI this season, has now recorded at least one RBI in 12 straight games after drawing a walk with the bases loaded to start a five-run sixth inning for UT Tyler. Buchhorn’s walk brought in Blake Wilson who led the inning off with a single up the middle, while the Graham Welch would highlight the inning with a two-out single to score two runs to give the Patriots the 5-0 lead.

Adams, who is now 13-8 in his career with 118 strikeouts, had two complete-game shutouts last season as a sophomore. Making his 10th start of the season, Adams scattered six hits in a 95-pitch performance against the Eagles. Brady Taylor (2-3) took the loss for Ozarks after surrendering five runs in the sixth after blanking the Patriots through five. A freshman, Taylor had six strikeouts and joined Adams with only one walk in the game.

UT Tyler finished the game with seven hits from seven different hitters, including a double from Daniel Williams and singles form Welch, Wilson, Sam Lane, Alex Bishop, Braxton Hollenshead and Josh Burns. Bishop singled in the sixth inning to extend a 12-game hitting streak and is now leading the Patriots with a .419 batting average and a team-leading 44 hits. Buchhorn was held without a hit for only the fourth time this season and is now hitting .358 on the season.

UT Tyler will honor Bob and Mary Irwin prior to the start of the doubleheader with a ceremony slated to begin at 12:30 p.m., while the program will honor its alumni with a ceremony between games.
