SHREVEPORT, La. – The No. 17-ranked UT Tyler baseball team suffered an 8-0 non-conference loss against Centenary on Wednesday in the Patriots’ first road game of the season at Shehee Stadium.

The Patriots (9-4) were limited to four hits as their five-game winning streak ended with the Gents (11-3) pounding out 10 hits and jumping out to their eight-run lead through five innings. UT Tyler, which had started the season with 12 straight home games, were held scoreless for the first time in 17 regular-season games dating back to last season. Centenary swept the regular-season series against the Patriots after also taking a 9-2 win over UT Tyler in the Clements Fluids Classic on Feb. 12.

Max Page (1-2) received the loss in his first start of the season after allowing five earned runs in 3 1/3 innings of work. A freshman left-handed pitcher, Page had three strikeouts but allowed seven hits along with walking three. Jacob Clark would record two outs in relief and surrender two more runs, while Reese Reed halted the damage by striking out five over three innings of relief and Nate Imig had two strikeouts in the bottom of the eighth.

Sam Lane provided two of the four UT Tyler hits with a double and single, while Braxton Hollenshead and Dalton Smith each had singles. Lane now has three doubles this season and five multiple-hit performances. Freshman Graham Welch went 0-for-3 in the game but extended his reached-base streak to 13 with a walk. Welch is the only Patriot to have reached base in all 13 games this season, while Hollenshead has now reached in nine straight games with his 15th hit of the season coming against Centenary.

Chris Zapata did damage against the Patriots by going 2-for-4 with three RBI, while Ian Graham went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Kaleb Kirk (3-2) earned the win with five scoreless innings, while Matthew Devillier had a four-inning save with five strikeouts.

UT Tyler will return to action this weekend with a two-game series at Louisiana College on Friday and Saturday in Pineville, Louisiana. The Patriots and Wildcats will open the series at 6 p.m. on Friday and will then play another game at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Neither game will be counted towards the American Southwest Conference standings. Cason Adams (1-0) is scheduled to be Friday night’s starter, while Michael Blevins (1-1) will start on Saturday. Blevins is coming off a win over Mary Hardin-Baylor last weekend where he recorded eight strikeouts in seven innings.
