TYLER – The No. 7-ranked Trinity Tigers scored the final seven runs of the game to take an 11-6 non-conference win over No. 20 UT Tyler on Sunday during the final game of the Clements Fluids Classic at Irwin Field.

The Patriots (4-2) went 1-2 in their home tournament after opening with a loss to Centenary (6-1) on Friday and then knocking off Texas Lutheran by a 9-0 count on Saturday. The Tigers (2-1) trailed the Patriots 6-4 going into a sixth inning where they would score four runs on three hits and then added three more in the seventh off three more hits.

Cade Suggs (0-1) received the loss for the Patriots in relief after surrendering a two-run home run to Jose Santos in the sixth inning and then two more runs in the seventh. UT Tyler starter Cason Adams struck out three, scattered nine hits and left in the sixth after giving up five earned runs. Adams, who saw Trinity jump out to a quick lead with three runs in the top of the first inning, would settle in over the next four frames before the Tigers struck for their two big innings.

While Trinity struck for three in the top of the first, the Patriots would also score three runs in the opening frame with Trenton Buchhorn picking up an RBI single up the middle followed by Braxton Hollenshead and Brady McCoy also driving in runs with singles. The Patriots would take a 5-3 lead in the third with Hollenshead scoring on an error after reaching on a single and then Kelly Dorsett being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Hollenshead and McCoy would both go 2-for-4 in the game, while Alex Bishop went 2-for-5 with a run scored. McCoy would have a season-high two RBI, while Buchhorn, Hollenshead and Dorsett would pick up RBI for the Patriots in their sixth game of the season. Graham Welch went 1-for-3 in the game and now leads the Patriots with a .409 batting average this season by going 9-for-22 on the season.

Buchhorn tops the Patriots with 11 hits and is at .407 on the year with two doubles and two triples, while Dorsett leads the team with seven RBI and is hitting .357. Hollenshead now has back-to-back two-hit games and is hitting .318 for the season and Bishop has six RBI and is hitting .333 with three singles, two doubles and one triple this season.

UT Tyler returns to action this week with a three-game set against LSU-Alexandria starting with a 6 p.m. game on Friday at Irwin Field followed by a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday.
