TYLER – The UT Tyler men’s basketball team suffered its fourth straight loss with an 81-68 defeat to Louisiana College on Saturday at the Herrington Patriot Center.

The Patriots (10-11, 3-10 ASC) fell below .500 for the first time this season with the loss and also dropped their second straight home game after starting the season with a 7-0 record at the HPC. UT Tyler, which plays at Belhaven and Rust College next week in a pair of road games, will finish off their regular season with two home games against Ozarks on Thursday, Feb. 18 and then the season finale on Saturday, Feb. 20 against Texas-Dallas.

Anthony Gonzales led the Patriots with 16 points and four steals on Saturday, while Demarcus Metcalf had 13 points, four rebounds and two steals. Gonzales lead the Patriots with 16.2 points per game this season and Metcalf in rebounding with 6.6 rebounds per game. The pair of seniors were the only two Patriots in double figures in the loss to the Wildcats (10-11, 9-6 ASC) with Ty Davis finishing with eight points and Darryn York with seven – both coming off the bench.

UT Tyler finished the game shooting 44 percent from the field and hit six 3-poitners, but the team would be out-rebounded by a 40-26 margin and saw the Wildcats own a 42-28 scoring advantage in the paint.

Anthony Gaines, Jr. led the Wildcats with 20 points and eight rebounds, while Julius Johnson had 17 points, Raheem Regis added 14 points and Demetrice Birdlong had 10 to account for four LC players in double figures.

The Patriots return to action at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday against Belhaven in Jackson, Mississippi. UT Tyler won the first matchup against the Blazers with a 94-75 win at the HPC.
