TYLER – Demarcus Metcalf recorded his second double-double of the season by going for 14 points and 12 rebounds and Anthony Gonzales scored 20 points to help lead UT Tyler to an 88-65 win over LeTourneau on Monday in an American Southwest Conference game at the Herrington Patriot Center.

The Patriots (8-3, 3-2 ASC) improved to 6-0 on their home court with the victory where they led 44-29 at halftime and with the 23-point margin being the second largest margin of victory this season. The win evened the season series with the YellowJackets (4-9, 2-3 ASC) who were limited to 38.2 percent shooting including going 7-for-29 from the 3-point line. The Patriots were on point throughout going 35-for-69 from the field (50.7 percent) and hit seven 3-pointers.

The Patriots will now go on a five-game road trip, starting with a 7:30 p.m. game at Concordia on Thursday in Austin and then a 3 p.m. game at UMBH on Saturday in Belton. UT Tyler is 3-1 against ASC West Division opponents this season.

Ty Davis hit four 3-pointers and finished with 12 points for the Patriots against LETU, while Deon Rodgers did work inside with 12 points on a 6-for-8 shooting performance. Rodgers also grabbed four rebounds for the Patriots who owned a 46-30 scoring advantage in the paint of the YellowJackets and a 48-42 rebounding margin advantage. Darryn York would add eight points off the bench and Dadrian Taylor had seven points.

UT Tyler finished the game shooting 11-for-14 from the free-throw line and were 7-for-19 on 3-pointers in the win that had it leading by 15 at halftime after shooting 18-for-34 in the first 20 minutes. The Patriots, who were up 19-17 with 10:36 to play in the first half, broke loose with a 6-1 run that was highlighted by a pair of inside shots from Metcalf and Dyonne Luke that took the lead to 25-18. The lead grew to double digits for the first time at 32-22 when Gonzales hit a pair of free throws with 4:38 remaining in the half and was at 42-26 when Gonzales drilled a 3-pointer.

Gonzales has now scored 20 or more points in four games and in double figures in each of the 11 games this season. He leads the Patriots with 18.1 points per game, while Metcalf is at 12.7 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. Metcalf’s first double-double of the season came in a 10 point, 14-rebound performance against Howard Payne. He was named the ASC East Division Player of the Week after going for 23 points last Tuesday in a win over No. 25 Texas Lutheran and then posting a 17 point, nine-rebound performance against Southwestern last Wednesday.
