Bloomquist Named Patriots' Sports Information Coordinator

TYLER -- Wes Bloomquist has been named the Sports Information Coordinator for UT Tyler Athletics, Vice President for Student Affairs Howard Patterson announced on Monday.

Bloomquist brings years of communications and writing experience to the Patriots' staff, taking over for Jeff Williford who will now serve as the Assistant Director of the HPC and Athletics Operations.

For the past five years, Bloomquist served as the Assistant Director of Athletic Communications at NCAA Div. II Angelo State.

As the Sports Information Coordinator, Bloomquist will oversee communications for UT Tyler's 17 men's and women's sports, including social media, web coverage, video features and statistical reporting through He will also help develop content for the video boards at Suddenlink Field and Irwin Field.

Bloomquist is a three-time CoSIDA Fred Stabley Sr. Writing contest winner after earning the award in player feature writing (2013), game reporting (2014) and general feature writing (2015). He also filmed and produced highlight videos which earned #SCtop10 during the 2013 and 2014 football seasons. He also promoted Angelo State basketball player Kenny Williams to the second round of the 2014 State Farm Dark Horse Dunker competition through the use of video, writing and graphic work. 

The Georgetown native is no stranger to Tyler, graduating from UT Tyler in 2005 with a bachelor's degree in journalism.  Also during his time at UT Tyler, he interned in the newsroom at Tyler's CBS 19 television station and wrote for the Patriot Talon covering men's and women's soccer, men's basketball, softball and baseball.

While obtaining his graduate degree at San Angelo, Bloomquist was awarded a Lone Star Conference Sports Information Student Academic Award.
