AMERICAN SOUTHWEST CONFERENCE TENNIS PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

WEST DIVISION WOMEN'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Cheyanne Lovelady, Sr., Howard Payne
Howard Payne University senior Cheyanne Lovelady (Bangs, Texas) helped lead the Lady Jackets to a 1-1 week as she went 2-0 in number six singles and 2-0 in number two doubles with Rosie Cadena. Lovelady’s victories came against Louisiana College (6-0, 6-0 / 8-0) and Howard Payne (6-2, 6-2 / 8-4).
 
EAST DIVISION WOMEN'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Marisa Quevedo, Sr., UT Tyler
University of Texas at Tyler senior Marisa Quevedo (Tyler, Texas) made her first appearance for the Patriots this weekend and came out with two big wins as they defeated Austin 8-1. She earned a number one singles victory 6-3, 6-3 and teamed with Nancy Perez for an 8-5 victory at top doubles.
 
WEST DIVISION MEN'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Giovanni Zamboni, So., UT Dallas
University of Texas at Dallas sophomore Giovanni Zamboni (Milan, Italy) was a perfect 4-0 on the court as the Comets picked up a pair of road wins last week. He was a straight-set winner at number three singles and partnered with Mario Jelev with a quick 8-1 win at number one doubles in a 9-0 win against Sul Ross State. Zamboni then had a 6-2, 6-2 win at number three singles and an 8-3 victory at number three doubles in their come-from-behind 5-4 win at Austin.
 
EAST DIVISION MEN'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Christian Farris, So., LeTourneau
LeTourneau University sophomore Christian Farris (El Paso, Texas) picked up a pair of wins at both number one singles and number one doubles as the YellowJackets went 1-1 on the week. Farris defeated Howard Payne’s top competitor 6-4, 6-0 before teaming with Jimmie Henson to win 8-1 in doubles. Against Austin, Farris won 1-6, 6-2, 10-8 in singles and 9-8 (7-4) to claim doubles.
 
OTHER WOMEN'S PERFORMANCES
East Texas Baptist University senior Jabree McClaine (Arlington, Texas) won both points for the Tigers in a 7-2 loss to No. 35 Redlands. She won at fifth singles 2-6, 6-4, 10-3 and teamed with Mullika Seekhieo at third doubles to win 9-8 (10-4).
 
Concordia University Texas sophomore Danielle Cuteri (Austin, Texas) went 0-2 her matches against No. 24 Southwestern, falling 4-6, 2-6 at second singles and 2-8 at number one singles.
 
LeTourneau junior Terin Murray (Iowa Park, Texas) collected two points in a 7-2 win against Howard Payne, winning 6-0, 6-1 at number two singles and 8-6 at number two doubles.
 
UT Dallas junior Sophie Farmer (Eden Prairie, Minn.) was 2-0 in the Comets’ 9-0 win over Sul Ross State. She teamed with Elizabeth Labra for an 8-0 win at second doubles, then picked up a 6-0, 6-2 victory at number four singles.
 
OTHER MEN'S PERFORMANCES
Concordia University junior Hoanh Le (Phan Thiet, Vietnam) would only be broken twice as the Tornados’ win streak was snapped against No. 34 Southwestern. Le lost at number one singles 6-4, 6-4 and number one doubles 8-4.
 
Louisiana College freshman Leondro de Castro (Sao Paulo, Brazil) was the only Wildcat to win his singles match against Howard Payne, coming up with a 6-4, 6-1 win at number one singles.
 
UT Tyler sophomore Gabriel Hidalgo (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) won in straight sets to help the Patriots win 9-0 over Austin. He earned a 7-5, 6-2 win at fourth singles, before teaming with Daniel Rodriguez, as the No. 22-ranked doubles team in the nation, to defeated the ‘Roos 8-2 at number one.
