RECAP: Hicken finishes fourth at Lion Invite

POTTSBORO - The UT Tyler women’s golf team finished fifth overall with Katelyn Hicken leading the team with a fourth-place finish in the Lion Invitational on Tuesday at Tanglewood Resort. The tournament was hosted by Texas A&M-Commerce and consisted of NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and junior college programs.

Hicken, a sophomore from Frisco, recorded her second top-5 finish of her career after finishing with an 80-79—189 and earned all-tournament honors. She had 18 pars and two birdies in the 36-hole tournament and finished tied with the best par-5 scoring average at 5.25 and two-over through the tournament. Stephanie Tutt was 17th at the event and came out with the second-best score for the Patriots at 85-88—173, while Taylor Denton carded a 94-82—176 for 20th-place. Hannah Washburn (97-92—189) finished 31st and Stevie Clewett (93-102—195) 35th for the Patriots who will now have a week off before they travel to Peoria, Arizona for the George Fox Westbrook Invitational on March 17th and 18th.

The Patriots finished with an overall team score of 352-341—693, while Angelo State won the tournament with a 321-324—645 and Tyler JC took second with a 335-317—652. Western Texas finished third with a team total of 659 and Texas A&M-Commerce falling behind them in fourth with a 680.
