TYLER – The UT Tyler baseball team will play a three-game series against Texas Lutheran this weekend at Katt-Isbell Field in Seguin. The non-conference series begins at 7 p.m. on Friday before a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday.

The Patriots (4-3) are coming off a 7-1 win over Millsaps on Tuesday in Mississippi, while the Bulldogs (9-0) swept a three-game series against Hardin-Simmons last weekend on their home field to remain perfect on the season. TLU also has wins over Mary Hardin-Baylor and LeTourneau already this season and is 6-0 at home entering its series against UT Tyler.

The Patriots bounced back with their midweek win over the Majors after dropping three straight last weekend against Whitworth, Trinity and Centenary. UT Tyler will be playing its first road series of the season after playing its first six games at home before its game at Millsaps.

Blake Maddox leads the Patriots through seven games with a .421 average, including eight total hits and seven RBI. A junior from Jacksonville, he hit a two-run home run in the first inning at Millsaps for his first home run as a Patriot and also has one double this season. Blake Wilson has nine hits and seven runs scored to lead the team, while Josh Burns has added six RBI and Ben Romines has driven in five more. Romines, a senior from Tyler, leads the team with three doubles and has five total hits along with Jordan Antley and Alex Bishop.

On the mound, Ryan Cheatham (0-1), Max Page (0-1) and Simon Sedillo (1-0) have each made two starts this season. Cheatham has recorded seven strikeouts, a 0.00 ERA and has limited opponents to a .216 batting average through 10 1/3 innings to start his senior season after going 9-0 last season. Sedillo is coming off a no-decision against Centenary last Sunday after throwing 6 1/3 scoreless innings.  A senior from Grand Prairie, Sedillo struck out six Gents in the game after striking out two in a win over La Verne during opening weekend where he went five innings. He currently has a 0.79 ERA through 11 1/3 innings.

UT Tyler will return to action after this weekend in Seguin by traveling to play Centenary at 6 p.m. on Tuesday in Shreveport before hosting East Texas Baptist next weekend during Homecoming. The Patriots and Tigers will be opening American Southwest Conference play, starting at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 2 before playing a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday, March 3.
