LONGVIEW – The UT Tyler women’s basketball team started the game on a 10-0 run and ran away with an 82-61 win over LeTourneau in an American Southwest Conference game on Saturday at the Solheim Arena.

The Patriots (12-7, 8-4 ASC) earned their second straight road win after also going on the road to knock off East Texas Baptist on Thursday, while the YellowJackets fell to 0-12 in ASC play.

Alex Kochner matched a career-high with 14 rebounds and recorded her fourth double-double of the season after scoring 13 points for the Patriots, while Carissa Spiker went for 15 points to lead the team in scoring. Bianca Valderrama would add 14 points and three rebounds, while Alexus Bertrand hit three 3-pointers and finished the game with 13 points. Spiker and Brittany Johnson led the team with four assists each. Johnson would finish with seven points and three rebounds to go along with her four assists in the 21-point win.

UT Tyler, which led by as many as 24 points in the wire-to-wire win, finished the game shooting 46.6 percent from the field and also going 21-for-30 at the free-throw line in its fifth road win of the season. Defensively, the Patriots limited the YellowJackets to 36.8 percent shooting including 5-for-21 on 3-pointers.

UT Tyler led 39-23 at halftime after jumping out to a 10-0 lead to start the game and shooting 48.3 percent from the field. Kochner led the Patriots with 11 points and seven rebounds through the first 20 minutes of play, while Valderrama had eight and Johnson seven as they took a 16-point lead into the locker room. LeTourneau was limited to 30 percent shooting, including going 1-for-7 on 3-pointers and not being able to make up any ground by struggling by shooting 4-for-13 at the free-throw line.

In the second game of the ASC East Division home-and-away series, UT Tyler will host LeTourneau on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. inside the Herrington Patriot Center before hosting East Texas Baptist on Saturday.
