TYLER – Samantha Odom was three assists shy of a triple-double after going for 10 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists to help lead the UT Tyler women’s basketball team to an 81-59 win over Louisiana College on Thursday at the Herrington Patriot Center.

The Patriots (9-6, 5-3 ASC) improved to 6-1 on their home court and won their second straight ASC game by double-digits after handing the Wildcats (7-6, 3-4 ASC) a 22-point defeat where they led 37-27 at halftime.

Carissa Spiker led the Patriots with 15 points and also added five rebounds, while Alexus Bertrand had 14 points, five assists and five steals. Brittany Johnson added 10 points, three steals and six assists and Demi Cumby finished with nine points and seven rebounds. UT Tyler finished the game with a 48-35 rebounding advantage and shot 42.7 percent from the field, including hitting eight 3-pointers in the game.

Odom, who is averaging 8.1 points and 5.5 rebounds per game, had a career-high with the 13 rebounds and finished the game shooting 5-for-10 from the field. The Patriots had two 3-pointers in each quarter of play, while LC was limited to 3-for-13 from beyond the arc throughout the game.

Bertrand led the Patriots at halftime after scoring all of her 14 points on a 4-for-8 performance on 3-pointers in the first 20 minutes, while Spiker had 13 points and four rebounds off the bench after going 6-for-11 from the field in the first half. UT Tyler shot 41.0 percent from the field in the first half, held LC to 32.1 percent and had a 27-13 rebounding advantage to jump out to a 10-point halftime lead.

UT Tyler will return to action at 2 p.m. on Saturday against Belhaven at the HPC, while the Wildcats travel to Arkansas to play at Ozarks. The Patriots will honor their alumni at halftime of the game against the Blazers before going on the road next week to play UT Dallas on Thursday, Jan. 18 in Richardson.
