MARSHALL – Brieanne Brown led UT Tyler with 15 kills to become only the third player in program history to surpass the 900-kill milestone and the Patriots earned a 16-25, 25-16, 25-22, 25-20 win over East Texas Baptist on Tuesday at the Ornelas Arena.

“I am proud of the way we responded after the opening set,” UT Tyler coach Lyndsay Mashe said. “They really pulled together as a team. We started playing aggressive and took the game over.”

The Patriots (19-6, 12-4 ASC) swept the season series over the Tigers (12-17, 8-8 ASC) after snapping an 11-match losing streak to them earlier this season with a sweep in Tyler. UT Tyler will be the second seed out of the East for the second straight season with UT Dallas winning the division outright with a win over LeTourneau on Tuesday night. The ASC Championship will be hosted by the Comets with the tournament starting next Thursday in Richardson with the Patriots set to play Hardin-Simmons at noon in the first match of the tournament.

Brown led the Patriots with 15 kills in the win over the Tigers while Brianna Bellehumeur had 12 kills and 13 digs for the 10th double-double of her freshman season. Brown now has 903 kills in her career, becoming only the third player in program history to accomplish the milestone. UT Tyler junior setter Reighanna Guzman established a career-best with 48 assists a week after having 44 in the team’s win over UT Dallas. Loren Guerra added 12 kills and a block, while Samantha Lee had six kills for the Patriots who improved to 11-4 away from home this season.

Defensively, Makenna Bartlett contributed 20 digs while Guzman had 19 and Kyana Alvarez had 12 for the Patriots who out-dug the Tigers by a 90-84 margin on their home court. Kayla McCoy led the Patriots with a .353 attacking percentage and had seven kills, while Emily Robison added two aces and 11 digs for the Patriots.

UT Tyler will complete the regular season this weekend with three non-conference matches against Millsaps, Centenary and Austin College in Shreveport before making its eighth ASC Championship appearance in program history.
