TYLER - The UT Tyler men's basketball team ended the 2015-2016 season with an 89-79 loss to the Comets (17-8, 9-6) at the Herrington Patriot Center on Saturday. The Patriots finished 13-12 overall and 4-11 in conference play.

Deon Rodgers led the way for the Patriots with 15 points and nine rebounds, while senior Demarcus Metcaff finished with 15 points and four steals. Senior Dadrian Taylor and Melvin Anthony also scored in double figures, with 11 and 10 respectively.

The first half was closely contested, with neither team being able to pull away. A three by UTD's Jon Hatcher with eleven minutes remaining gave the Comets a ten point lead, the largest of the half. Behind nine quick points by Rodgers, The Patriots responded with a 12-2 run, finished off with Rodger's first three-pointer of the season. The teams entered the break with UTD leading 41-37.

The Patriots would then go cold, finishing the last five minutes 4-9 from the field with four turnovers. The Comets took advantage, going on a 19-11 run to finish off the game.

The Patriots shot the ball well, going 50% from the field and 48% from three, compared to 46% from the field and 47% from three for UTD. However, UT Tyler couldn't overcome commiting 19 turnovers leading to 21 UTD points.

The Comets were lead by Caleb Banks, who finished with 25 points and seven assists. Jon Hatcher added 21 points, while Kyle Coulter and Dapo Ogunfeitmi chipped in 15 a piece.

UT Tyler also honored their six seniors, Dadrian Taylor, Ty Davis, Demarcus Metcalf, Dyonne Luke, Anthony Gonzales Jr., and Joey Cuervo, on Saturday before their final game.
