TYLER, Texas -- The Pacific Lutheran Lutes shut out Huntingdon over five
innings to claim an 8-0 first-round win at the Tyler Regional of the
NCAA Division III Softball Championships.
PLU's Stacey Hagensen struck out six batters and ceded only one hit en
route to the victory. The senior retired the first 10 batters she faced,
and also hit 1-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and two runs scored.
Kaaren Hatlen led the Lutes at the plate by going 2-for-2 with three
RBIs. She gave the Lutes all the cushion they needed in her first two
at-bats with a first-inning RBI double and a two-run home run in the
bottom of the third inning.
Glenelle Nita went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Lutes. Seven of the
nine hitters in PLU's lineup collected base hits in the game.
Bree Giordana took the loss for Huntingdon College, which will face
Birmingham-Southern College in an elimination game to kick off
Saturday's slate of games. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
The Lutes face University of Redlands in a winner's bracket contest scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
