RECAP: Nix, McGeary set new @UTT_TF marks in Missouri

JOPLIN, Missouri – UT Tyler school records continue to fall as Michaela McGeary broke the women’s shot put mark with a throw of 11.20 meters and Victoria Nix cleared 11-feet, 5.75 inches in the pole vault to highlight Patriot success on Saturday at the Missouri Southern Lion Open.

On the Mercy Indoor Track, UT Tyler’s 4x400 team of Zach Richardson, Collin Rippy, Grayson Lawrence and Damarion Greenwood ran a 3:35.65 in the event and Kade Trompler sprinted to a 7.13 time and 17th place finish in the 60-meter. Richardson was coming off a great Friday night where he ran a 22.55 for seventh overall and just behind the top finisher from Rogers State who ran a 22.22.

Kaylee Prather ran an 8.10 in the 60-meter dash for 18th in the event, while Kyra Winn ran an 8.82 and Ashton Hawkins a 9.27. McGeary would finish 13th overall with her UTT record of 36-feet, 9.0 inches, while Nix was tied for sixth at the meet. 

Overall in Joplin, Prather left with a new UT Tyler women's long jump record at 5.47 meters and Cody Benton a new men's long jump record of 6.69 meters on Friday to go along with Nix and McGeary's records on Saturday. 

UT Tyler will return to competition next Saturday at the Broncho Open at the University of Oklahoma before hosting a pair of outdoor meets on Friday, Feb. 23 and Friday, March 2.
