PREVIEW: @UTT_TF to open season in Norman

Friday, January 19, 2018

TYLER – The UT Tyler Indoor Track & Field programs will open their seasons on Saturday at the University of Central Oklahoma Open which is being hosted at the Mosier Indoor Athletic Facility on the University of Oklahoma campus in Norman Oklahoma.

UT Tyler will be represented by 28 athletes at the event that will start with field events at 11 a.m. and running events at noon. Along with competing against UCO, the Patriots will face off against athletes from Oklahoma Baptist, Southwestern Oklahoma, Southern Nazarene, East Central Oklahoma, Langston, Cloud County, Oklahoma Wesleyan, Coffeyville, Bacone and Oklahoma City University.

“The UCO meet will be a low-pressure fun meet,” UT Tyler coach Bob Hepler said. “Sometimes that leads to some surprisingly good early season performances. We have so much young talent this year.  For many of them this will be their first indoor meet ever. That’s going to be fun to watch. There will be some intense learning by our athletes.”

“I’m looking forward to seeing how everyone competes mostly,” said UT Tyler assistant coach Chris Stonestreet. “Early season meets are primarily to learn how to compete and establish a starting point for the year. We have a very young team with a lot of talent and this will be the first chance we get to see many of them compete. It will be fun to get out of practice and establish some competition rhythm.”

UT Tyler will return to action after this weekend’s trip to Norman by competing at the Missouri Southern Lion Open on Feb. 3-4 in Joplin, Missouri.
