NACOGDOCHES – UT Tyler senior Whitney Simmons won the Hammer Throw with a mark of 61.30 at the SFA Skechers Performance Carl Knight Invitational on Saturday at the Fletcher Garner Track.

Simmons, who is the defending NCAA Division III Champion, won her third meet of the season in the Hammer after topping Sam Houston’s Yarixza Rivera who finished second at SFA with a throw of 55.27. Simmons would also finish ninth in the Discus with a mark of 40.39 in the event.

On the track, sophomore Zach Richardson would run a 50.54 and finish 14th in the 400 and Ricky Hall sprinted to a 10.75 time in the 100 for 15th in the event. Hall's time of 10.75 is the second fastest in UT Tyler history and is currently the 10th fastest in NCAA DIII competition. Tristin Salem ran a 2:31 in the women’s 800-meters, while Logan Houser finished 10th on the men’s side by running a 1:58 in the two-lap raced. Shafen Borah ran a 2:01 in the event and Quinton Bryson a 2:03 for the Patriots.

UT Tyler junior Matthew Godwin had a throw of 56.62 to finish third in the Javelin at the SFA Skechers Performance Carl Knight Invitational on Friday to lead the Patriots.

Michaela Heys was 10th in the Steeplechase with a time of 12:41 and Quinton Bryson and Erik Sanchez were 10th and 11th in the men’s Steeplechase. Will McIlroy ran a 15:55 for 20th in the 5,000 meters and Shafen Borah was 22nd with a time of 4:17 in the 1,500 meters. Nikelas Simmons was ninth in the Javelin with a distance of 42.75 for the Patriots, and Joseph Ruiz was 10th at 40.95. Matthew Roe would finish 10th in the shot put at 12.62 meters and Victoria Nix was sixth overall in the Pole Vault by clearing 3.56 meters.

The Patriots will return to action next Saturday at the Texas A&M-Commerce meet in Commerce.
