T&F Finishes Strong at ASC Championships

CLINTON, Miss.-- The men's and women's track and field teams finished second and fifth respectively, at the 2012 American Southwest Conference Track and Field Championships.  The Patriots men finished with 168 team points, finishing second to the No. 1 ranked team in the nation, McMurry.  

For the men, Nicklas Huff ran a blazing 1:54.13 in the 800 meter run, finishing in first place.  In the men's 1500 meter run, Will Krogman finished second with a time of 4:12.44, while teammate Ross Renfroe and Jake Waddingham finished third and fourth, with times of 4:13.79 and 4:16.80 respectively.

Renfroe also placed second in the 10,000 meter run, finishing with a time of 34:31.38, while teammates Kyle Clawson and Derek Blain finished in fourth and fifth respectively.

Chris Stonestreet won the hammer throw with a toss of 55.21 meters, while also finishing third in the shot-put and fifth in the discus throw.  Buck Thompson also won a conference championship in the men's discus throw, with a throw of 50.62 meters.  Teammate TravisCrafton finished in third place in the javelin throw, with a throw of 48.15 meters.

Tanner Conkel won the high jump competition for the men, clearing 1.98 meters to take home the ASC crown.

Waddingham also won the 3000 meter steeplechase, dashing his way to a time of 10:08.36, while teammates Huff and Krogman finshed in second and third.

On the women's side, Sarah Hankla had a great ASC meet, finishing third in the women's 10,000 meter run with a time of 41:45.52, while also finishing fifth in the 5000 m run with a time of 20:21.12.  Teammate Baylee Talaska finished in fourth in the 10,000 m run with a time of 42:46.64, while Ginny Murphy finished fifth in 43:25.74.

Freshman Kelly McQuaid also placed fifth in the women's 1500 m run, with a time of 5:10.07.
