PREVIEW: #UTTylerTF to compete at Boston University

TYLER – The UT Tyler Indoor Track & Field team returns to action on Friday and Saturday at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational being hosted by Boston University at the Track & Tennis Center in Boston, Massachusetts.

Whitney Simmons is the only Patriot competing on Friday and is coming off being named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division III National Athlete of the Week following a program-record 18.89-meter Weight Throw to win the Missouri Southern Open. Simmons, who also won the University of Houston’s meet to open her senior season, leads the nation in the event coming into the meet in Boston. Simmons will begin competing around 11 a.m. (CST) on Friday.

UT Tyler will be represented by Gabriel Perez in the Weight Throw, while Zach Richardson, Ricky Hall and Logan Houser will compete on the track on Saturday. A junior from Killeen, Perez is coming off a throw of 15.58 meters in Joplin, Missouri for an 11th-place finish. Perez established a new UT Tyler record in the season-opening meet in Houston with a throw of 17.08 meters.

Richardson is coming off running a 23.24 in the 200 meters in Missouri after a 22.95 in Houston. A sophomore from Waxahachie, Richardson will also run the 400 on Saturday along with Hall who will compete in both events. Hall ran a 23.30 in the 200 last weekend in Joplin. Logan Houser will run the 400 and 800 in Boston after running a season-best 52.88 in Houston.

UT Tyler will take a break from competition next week before the Indoor Track & Field Classic being held at the Ford Center in Frisco on Feb. 9-10.
