
The University of Texas at Tyler was swept by Trinity (Tex.) in a battle of nationally ranked teams on Saturday at the Summers Tennis Center. The 23rd-ranked Patriot men’s team fell to the 3rd-ranked Trinity men, 6-3, while the 18th-ranked Trinity women defeated the 30th-ranked UT Tyler women, 8-1.
Junior Steven Campbell (San Angelo, Texas) and sophomore David Ashlock (Arlington, Texas) were both successful in their singles matches, defeating their opponents in straight sets. On the doubles front, Ashlock and partner junior Dustin Phillips (Houston, Texas) picked up the lone pair’s victory, winning the match, 8-4.
In the women’s match, freshman Michelle Hagler (Austin, Texas) was the lone Patriot to grab a win on the day. Hagler won her match in straight sets 6-1, 7-6.
With the losses, the men fall to 13-6 on the year, while the women fall to 13-3.
Both UT Tyler teams will return to action on April 8 in Pineville, La., when they take on Louisiana College at 2 p.m.
