PREVIEW: @patriotstennis to play two matches in St. Louis

TYLER – The UT Tyler tennis teams travel to St. Louis, Missouri to play Washington University at 4 p.m. and DePauw University at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The men and women’s teams are on four-match win streaks and will look to continue that success in their final matches of the year before the American Southwest Conference Championships.

“We are excited to end our regular season playing two great teams in Washington University in St. Louis and DePauw,” UT Tyler coach Adam Cohen said. “For our men, this is a chance to show that we are ready for the national spotlight. Washington is a top 10 program that has gone toe to toe with the best. I know we will show up to play. For our women, we will be making this trip without several of our top players. this is a real opportunity for us to show how deep we are. We’ve been in this situation before and our women have always stepped up to the plate. We have true competitors.”

The No. 29-ranked Patriot men earned their 15th straight ASC East Division Championship last week after a win over East Texas Baptist. The team is 16-3 overall heading into their final two matches of the season against DePauw University and a very good Washington squad who is ranked No. 10 nationally. Sophomore Gabriel Hidalgo has been the team’s leader in wins this season with records of 14-4 in singles and 11-5 in doubles. His doubles partner, sophomore Daniel Rodriguez, is having another standout year following his Freshman of Year honor last season. Rodriguez has a singles record of 10-4 and is 11-4 in doubles play. The men will play Washington at 4:30pm on Friday in St. Louis and follow it up with a match against DePauw at 7:30pm.

The No. 36-ranked Patriot women secured their 13th straight ASC East Division Championship with a victory over ETBU last Thursday and are now 13-5 overall and 5-0 in ASC play. The women will face No. 12 Washington University in St. Louis on Friday at 4pm and finish the road trip with a match against DePauw University at 7:30pm. Freshman Caitlyn Cox leads the team in singles victories with a record of 10-8 on the year and is 7-1 in doubles play. Junior Alexandra McKissick has the most doubles wins with nine and is 12-8 overall this season. Lauren Kuhn, Alexis Arrieta, and Marisa Quevedo have all earned ASC Player of the Week honors for the Patriots.

The Patriot women will host the ASC Tournament April 26-28 at the Summers Tennis Center, while the men’s tournament will be May 3-5.
